"Water is an agent of distortion and change, forcing a person to see things in new ways.
Each turn of the river opens out a new landscape, something no one has ever seen
before and will never see again. The landscape reveals itself in glimpses. The river hides
itself in motion. It holds layers of meaning, and so it adds mystery to the landscape, a sense
of complexity and risk, a sense that the important facts are hidden from view. "
